Our Story

Hi, I'm Nate, I and my family started Confluence Candles & Wax in 2021. This venture was a long time coming. When I decided to start a small business, I ran through a number of ideas. However, my thoughts kept going back to my memories of days as a child helping my parents with their home beekeeping business. In addition to honey, we also made candles, decorations, and other things from beeswax. I loved spending time in my father's workshop, with the smells of fresh honey and warm beeswax in the air. We helped tend the bees, bottle and label honey, and of course, pour and dip wax candles and other items.

A full beekeeping operation was not in the cards for my own family when we got started. So we started looking into candle making and wax pouring. While natural beeswax was (and still is) my first love, the call for soy-based scented candles lead us to make that a mainstay of our business. Now, I am happy to spend time in my own workshop, with my own children, making new memories!

In my "day job", I work in natural resource conservation, and have always had a love the the outdoors and nature. Ditch the tech, get outside, slow down. Taking the time for contemplation at the peak of a invigorating hike, or spending time with friends around a campfire, these are good things in life. Bringing these themes to my business seemed a natural path, as I could put a bit of my own passion into the work and products.

My passion didn't stop at just experiencing the outdoors, but protecting it. In my own life, I have seen rapid development in my home area, and many natural areas and open spaces have been forever lost. In my personal time, I work with and volunteer for many great people in the conservation world, helping to protect what remains. When starting Confluence Candles & Wax, I decided early on that I wanted to bring the company into alignment with my other work. I do this, not only in the general theme of our products, but by setting aside some of the profits to support open space and conservation. (Read more about Our Commitment here)
